One-year MA: Slavic Languages and Cultures

LUCRES offers a one-year programme in Slavic Languages and Cultures leading up to the degree of Master of Arts. The language of instruction of this internationally oriented programme is English.

Expanding your knowledge

The one-year MA programme in Slavic Languages and Cultures builds upon knowledge obtained in an earlier Slavic programme, either at Leiden University or at another university. Whether you're interested in modern Russian linguistics, the early days of Russian and Soviet film, or the history of linguistics in Eastern Europe, our programme will surely broaden your horizon. Our teachers are experts in their field, and the courses cover a wide range of topics.

Linguistics

  • Historical Slavic linguistics (especially Old Russian and Old Church Slavonic)
  • Modern Russian linguistics (semantics and syntax)
  • History of Eastern-European linguistics

Literature

  • Russian literature in the 19th and 20th centuries
  • Russian film
  • Russian popular culture

UvAIf you enroll in this MA programme, you will not only enjoy the classes of experienced LUCRES teachers, but also from the expertise of teachers of the University of Amsterdam, where you will follow one from a number of selected MA courses.

Study load

The one-year MA programme in Slavic Languages and Cultures spans 2 semesters – or one academic year. The total study load leading up to the degree of Master of Arts is 60 ECTS, made up by 40 ECTS of disciplinary subjects and an MA thesis of 20 ECTS.
